Patriots Win Outstanding Overall Player Development Award
"After receiving top honors for the team's financial education seminars three of the last four years, the NFL Player Development Department awarded the New England Patriots with this year's Outstanding Overall Player Development Award. At the annual meetings last week, awards were given to the NFL Player Development departments in the areas of financial education, continuing education, career development and life skills, with the Outstanding Overall Player Development Award honoring the club that excels in programming in all four areas of player development. In addition to their financial education, the NFL Player Development Department identified a few of the Patriots' recent initiatives as strengths of the program, including a safe boating program that was designed to raise awareness of risks after the boating tragedy that claimed the lives of two NFL players in the Gulf of Mexico last year. The team was also credited with their creative implementation of life skills training sessions. Boston Celtics Head Coach Doc Rivers was a guest speaker at one of the sessions this year. Last year, the Patriots earned their second consecutive award for the financial development area of their program, which includes 14 detailed financial seminars for rookies and veterans. During the 2010 regular season, an NFL representative will attend a Patriots home game to recognize the team's prestigious award with an on-field presentation." —New England Patriots

BOSTON GLOBE:  Amanda Belichick — Making It On Her Own
"Coach Belichick, who played lacrosse at Wesleyan in the 1970s, is sometimes cryptic, but he minces no words talking about his daughter. 'She always worked really hard,' he said. 'Her lacrosse career is her lacrosse career, not mine. She paved her own way. I'm really proud of that. I'm just glad she's happy with what she's doing. We talk sometimes. We talk about coaching no different than I would with [St. Louis Cardinals manager] Tony La Russa or [University of Florida football coach] Urban Meyer.' Amanda is more specific. 'He says, 'You should work on this, because if I was scouting you I'd do this.' Or, 'Figure out how to stop that.' Stuff that we kind of know, too, but it's nice because there are so many moving parts on the sideline it's always helpful.'"

Bill Belichick Speaks to Patriots.com About the State of the Team's Coaching Staff
"[N]ow that the dust from 2009 has settled, it seems the Patriots coaching staff will remain largely intact. But there has been some notable reshuffling in New England's coaching ranks this offseason. Last month, with his contract due to expire, defensive coordinator Dean Pees announced that he was not returning to New England. To fill the void left by Pees, Belichick will not name a coordinator, but will instead be more involved on defense to share the workload with his assistants. That includes the newly arrived Corwin Brown, a former Patriots safety from 1993-96 who has experience both as a player and a coach in Belichick's systems. Brown, who most recently served as defensive coordinator at Notre Dame, will be assigned to assist the defense, where he will share responsibilities with Josh Boyer coaching New England's defensive backs."
… "Titles are fine, nothing wrong with them, but the most important thing is each person's role, that we do everything we can to help the players succeed – everyone collectively getting the job done."
