Fans, Three Governors Give Patriots Rousing Sendoff to Super Bowl
30-Jan-2005, Associated Press
"The thousands of fans who gathered outside Gillette Stadium on Sunday to send
the New England Patriots on their way to the Super Bowl cheered just as loudly
for the team's owner and coach as they did for the marquee players.... The
soft-spoken Belichick was typically understated. 'We know we're going to have to
play our best game of the year, and that's what we're going to work on for the
next week,' Belichick said."

Bill Belichick's Sunday Press Conference from Jacksonville
30-Jan-2005, Super Bowl XXXIX
Q: "How much wiser are you for all of your Super Bowl
experience, not only on this team but on the Giants...?" BB: "Well again, I think it comes down to a week-to-week
basis. There are a couple things that, logistically maybe,
are a little bit smoother. But in the end it's going to come
down to how we perform against Philadelphia – that's our
opponent this week. It's not the environment, or the other
things related to the game – that's just all part of it. Our
opponent is the Philadelphia Eagles. How well we can
play, coach, make adjustments, execute, and do the things
that we need to do in that game, that's what will determine
the outcome of the game. That's where our total focus
is. Whatever has happened in the past, I'm not putting too
much on that. We've never played the Eagles before in a
situation like this. We'll just deal with them straight up –
what they can do and what we think we can do against them."

News

"Super Bowl travel day
started with a Gillette Stadium rally and continued to the team's week-long
resort hotel. PVN was there to capture it all. Plus, it wouldn't be a Super Bowl
day if players and the head coach weren't available to the media. Hear from
Belichick, Harrison, Izzo and others from the Renaissance World Golf Village."

Patriots Practice Pool Report
31-Jan-2005, Chicago Sun Times
"The New England Patriots held a loose and lively two-hour workout at Bartram
Trail High School on Monday afternoon with coach Bill Belichick saying they have
a long way to go in their preparations for Super Bowl XXXIX.... 'We were kind of
out there on an ice rink today,' Belichick said of the combination of wet field
from rain on Saturday and unseasonably cool weather. 'It's slick. We're not even
going full speed and guys are falling all over the place.'"

Bill Belichick's Monday Press Conference from Jacksonville
31-Jan-2005, Super Bowl XXXIX
Opening comments: "We just got off the field. Tried to get back into some of the things that
we started on last week on the Eagles. There's an awful lot to prepare for with
Philadelphia. They have an outstanding scheme on offense, defense, and special
teams with their coordinators, and of course an outstanding group of players. We
know they have 10 Pro Bowl players, plus a whole host of other players – the
Corey Simons and Jevon Kearses and all those types of people who, Mayberry,
guys like that who have also been to the Pro Bowl. So it's an outstanding
collection of talent, and a very difficult team to prepare for. We're going to
pick up where we left off last week in Foxboro, today, and continue that through
the week. We know we've got a lot of work to do, we're certainly not where we
need to be to play this game. But hopefully we'll be there by the time the game
comes."
On how he feels about being compared to Vince Lombardi: "I don't really
have much of a reaction to being compared to some of the other people in this
league. It's flattering, but that's not why I'm doing it and that's not what I'm
trying to do. I'm just trying to get this team prepared to play our best game of
the year against the Eagles. We know that the Eagles are a great football team.
They present a tremendous challenge. We know we're going to have to play our
best game of the year. That's really where all my focus is. I can't reflect back
to other points in time, and I really just don't think now is the time to do it
anyway. There's just too much on my plate at this point."

Bill Belichick during Media Day at ALLTEL Stadium
01-Feb-2005, Alltel Stadium
On his biggest difference as a head coach now compared to his first time
as a head coach: "One would be my record. I think the two changes that would be most notable
would be delegating things to other people in the organization. I am a detail
oriented person and sometimes that is not good, it's better to let somebody else
worry about the things they can do and let me worry about the things that only a
head coach can do. Off the field there are a lot of things that can affect your
football team. It is not all about technique and play calling, although that is
certainly a significant part of it. Sometimes there are things off the field
that can affect how your team functions and I have tried to be a little more
cognizant of those."
On what kind of team he wants to have: "Professional, hard working, playing with physical and mental toughness, and
able to stand up to a competitive challenge on a week-in and week-out basis."

Bill Belichick Press Conference from Jacksonville
02-Feb-2005, Super Bowl XXXIX
Opening statement: "We shuffled our schedule around a little bit this morning, and had
obviously a lot of people accommodate us, particularly Bartram Trail High
School. We worked out over there in much better conditions than we had on
Monday, so that was good. All the players participated. I think that we're
continuing to make steps in our preparations for the Eagles. We have a lot to
cover, we still have a lot to do. But we're getting there, so that's a positive.
We will have our meetings this afternoon and then get back on a normal schedule
tomorrow, on our normal Thursday schedule here for this week. So that's pretty
much where we're at today."

Bill Belichick Press Conference from Jacksonville
03-Feb-2005, Super Bowl XXXIX
Q: "...Have you learned about game management in your evolution as a head
coach, or is that an intrinsic thing?" BB: "I think game management is
something you probably learn a little bit about in every single game. You
prepare certain situational strategies, and plays to use in those situations, at
the beginning of the season, and sometimes modify them a little bit as you go
through the year –
maybe as new situations occur, or as your personnel changes, or your groupings
get modified a little bit through the course of the season. But they're not
always quite the way you draw them up. There are always some little wrinkles –
field position, field conditions, the weather, time, timeouts, score, etc. So I
think you're always learning on that. And it's something that as a coach, and as
a quarterback, and as a coordinator and a play-caller, you've always got to stay
on top of. You've always got to keep thinking about it. And the more you think
about it, I think the quicker you can react when those situations do occur in
the game. But it's tough. It's a lot easier when you can plan ahead. The
toughest ones are the ones that change in a hurry...."

Bill Belichick's Final Pre-Game Press Conference from Jacksonville
04-Feb-2005, Super Bowl XXXIX
Q: "You held that trophy before. What does that mean to you, and do you ever see
your name on one of these trophies in the future?" BB: "No, no. What does that mean? That means –
that trophy represents the team, I mean that word collectively, T-E-A-M, that is
able to play the best season for the year that it's engraved. It doesn't mean
anything about what happened the year before. It doesn't say what's the best
team, which has the most talented players, which teams as the biggest payroll,
smallest payroll. It stands for the team that played the best in that season,
and put the number on there for that year, and the next year we start all over
again, everybody is at the same point."

"'It's been two weeks
since our last game,' said coach Bill Belichick, who has bypassed the final
walk-through before several games late in the season. 'We've pretty much hit
everything we needed.' The team took a bus to Alltel Stadium for photos, and
many players brought cameras or camcorders. Players' families and children also
joined them."

SUPER BOWL XXXIX: Patriots 24, Eagles 21
06-Feb-2005, Alltel Stadium
"The Patriots won their
third Super Bowl in four years – 24-21 against the Philadelphia Eagles – and now
they are challenging history. It was their ninth consecutive postseason victory,
equaling Vince Lombardi's Green Bay Packers. It was coach Bill Belichick's 10th
playoff victory in 11 games, one better than the great Lombardi. And it matched
Dallas' run of three championships in four years in the early 1990s."

Winning Coach and MVP Press Conference
07-Feb-2005, Super Bowl XXXIX
On losing some of the coaching staff: "The coaching staff issue will be a
change for us. There are changes every year on every team, there's no team that
stays the same from one year to the next and the National Football League. Romeo
(Crennel) and Charlie (Weis) have done a great job. Their record speaks for
itself and a lot of the success that we've had is certainly a large share of the
credit should go to them. We wish them well and we'll have to adjust to and make
some changes on our end. But that's the way it is every year."
On the challenge of next year: "We treat every year the same. We'll
start at the bottom of the heap with everyone else – same record – and all try
to get to the same point. We approach every year the same."

Lombardi Trophies, each topped by a marquise shaped diamond, with the Patriots
logo at the base of the trophies. Twenty-one diamonds, representing the team's
