Belichick: "I think when you start a new season, everything's a concern. You just have to reestablish your level of play – each of us, coaches, players – establish a new level of play this season, and we'll just see how this team shapes up. It might be different than last year, it might be better in some areas, it might be not as good as others. So we'll just have to see that going forward. It's hard to tell in preseason. You really don't know until the regular season gets underway."

Armen Keteyian's Full Interview with Bill Belichick
CBS News Eye To Eye: Bill Belichick17-May-2008, CBS Eye to Eye
"My interpretation of the rules came from the Constitution & Bylaws. In I think it's paragraph 14 in there, the Constitution & Bylaws states very clearly that you cannot use any type of videotaping device or anything like that from the start of the game to the conclusion of the game. And that was never done. We never, ever used any of the videotaping in any way during the course of any game. And that's what I felt like I was in compliance with and that's my basis for really everything that we've done in terms of competing in the National Football League."

Bill Belichick Counters Spying Charges Made by His Former Videotaper for the First Time Tonight on the CBS Evening News with Katie Couric
16-May-2008, CBS News
Armen Keteyian: "It was [Matt] Walsh who shot video during Belichick's first two seasons in New England in 2000 and 2001. He went public this week, calling the coach 'arrogant.' Walsh claims Belichick's contention that he just 'misinterpreted' the rules was false and that the taping was actually a deliberate, illicit scheme by the Patriots to cheat their way to victory. Today, in an exclusive interview with CBS News, Belichick fired back at Walsh." Bill Belichick: "I don't know what his agenda is. Again, he was fired here for poor job performance. There's not a lot of credibility. He's trying to make it seem like we were buddies and belonged to the same book club and all that. It's really a long, long stretch. … For him to talk about game-planning and strategy and play-calling and how he advised coordinators is…it's embarrassing, it's absurd. He didn't have any knowledge of football. He was our third video assistant."

The NFL Today: Armen Keteyian interviews Bill Belichick
Bill Belichick with Armen Keteyian on The NFL Today on CBS23-Dec-2007, CBS
On all the things they've had to deal with since the beginning of the season: "It's a real credit to our players to be able to push [aside] those issues that don't really matter and affect the outcome of the game and focus on their job and the task at hand, which is our next opponent." What it's like to coach this team: "I think we all look at things kind of in a similar way – what's important, how do we win? It's not about personal stats and that kind of thing. Nobody even talks about that. They just talk about 'What can I do to help the team win?' And it's great to be a part of that type of a group. It's a privilege for me to do it."

Inside The NFL: The Belichick family's history with the Detroit Lions
06-Dec-2006, HBO
Bill [to son Brian]: "Do you know the Lions' history? Grandpa's first job with the Lions?"
Brian: "Equipment manager?"
Bill: "Equipment manager."
Brian: "I knew that."
Bill: "Do you know who the head coach was?"
Brian: "No."
Bill: "The head coach was Bill Edwards. He was my godfather."
Brian: "Oh really?"
Bill: "About a third of the way through the season, he thought my dad was better than the fullback they had, so he brought him in to play. Took him out of the equipment room and put him onto the field to play fullback."
Narrator: [Film footage of a 1941 Detroit Lions game] "Steve Belichick, number 30, scored three touchdowns for the 1941 Lions. In 1976, his son Bill, at age 24, began a two-year stint in Detroit as an assistant coach."

ESPN College GameDay: Urban Meyer and Bill Belichick
28-Oct-2006, ESPN
Wendi Nix: "Florida head coach Urban Meyer runs one of the most innovative offensive systems in college football. A fact not lost on Patriots head coach Bill Belichick, who last spring traveled to Florida to workout a number of Gator players in advance of the NFL Draft."
Urban Meyer: "I think it shows what kind of guy he is, that he spent five hours working the guys out himself, interviewing them himself and asking the head coach and the position coaches about them. There's almost zero chance of error if you do it the right way, and that's why I really admire the way he does things."

Sunday NFL Countdown: The Patriot Mentality
26-Nov-2006, ESPN
Rachel Nichols: "The Patriot mentality. It is relentless, it is consistent, and when trouble strikes, it remains the team's biggest weapon."
Troy Brown: "We check our egos at the door. You may be asked to do things you may not be happy with, but you have to go out there and get it done anyway for the betterment of everybody else."
Nichols: "…During a two-game losing streak in early November – their first since 2002 – players once again did what they always do: they didn't talk, they didn't panic, they went about their business and won their next game."

FOX NFL Pregame Show: Bill Belichick with Jimmy Johnson
17-Dec-2005, FOX
Jimmy Johnson: "A coach can only take a team just as far as the talent available. They've had so many injuries this year, it's been difficult to overcome. But this team will win the AFC East for the third year in a row."
Howie Long: "Yeah, I think this might be arguably his best job to date with all the players he's had injured. I think these players on this team are a reflection of him."

27-Nov-2005, CBS
Steve Belichick: "This is Amos Alonzo Stagg, 1893. [He hands Armen the book] Now, he made great contributions to the game of football."
Armen Keteyian: "Scientific and Practical Treatise. 'With happy memories and best wishes to my friend Steve Belichick, Paul E. Brown.' How many [books] do you have here, Steve, do you think?"
Steve: "I think I have around 500 total. Not all of them are here – some of them are upstairs, some of them are in boxes. I started collecting them in the late '50s and the early '60s. I would go scout, and some of the towns had great bookstores. Used books. I would bring them home and they'd be sitting on the table and [Bill] would pick it up and look at it."

Bill Belichick 2008 NFL Draft Interview
26-Apr-2008, NFL Network
Rich Eisen: "We are now pleased to fire up PatriotsCam for the three-time Super Bowl winning head coach of the New England Patriots, and that is of course Bill Belichick joining us right now from Patriots headquarters. Coach, we appreciate you joining us. You have Jerod Mayo, a linebacker from Tennessee, now in your fold. What did you like about this young man?"
Bill Belichick: "Well, really pretty much everything. He's a physical player, good against the run, he runs well, can play in the passing game, he's a smart kid, and he's played all three positions for Tennessee. I think he also has some versatility at all three linebacker spots, and can play on fourth down and the kicking game, too. So he's a versatile player that's smart and likes football."

NFL Films President Steve Sabol on Bill Belichick
17-Jan-2008, NFL Films
"Bill Belichick is a man of contradiction. The type of coach who always carries a whistle, but rarely needs to use it. A coach who appreciates football's past, yet is always focused on the future. … Critics say he's as unreadable as James Joyce, and doubly complex. But that inscrutability may be his genius, and, the reason for his team's success. Like their coach, the Patriots are not concerned with developing a specific style. … They can beat you with the pass, or the run; with defense, or special teams; with power football, or trick plays. Like their coach, they are predictably unpredictable."

Mike Mayock's Interview with Bill Belichick
29-Dec-2007, NFL Total Access
When asked who the leaders are in the locker room: "Every player that owns a jersey. I think each player is a shareholder on our team. Each player that comes to work with a good attitude, that works hard, that puts the team first and that pays attention to the details, provides leadership in their own way. It doesn't have to be a team speech, they don't have to be a captain, but if they bring that kind of attitude and work ethic to the team, then that's positive leadership. And each one of us has a little slice of that pie and has a little role in it."

Draft Coverage: Bill Belichick with Rich Eisen and Mike Mayock
29-Apr-2006, NFL Network
Mike Mayock: "You've been snakebit a little bit with the cornerback position the last couple years – your safeties and a little bit with the linebackers – with injuries. Are you happy with what you did in the offseason? What do you have to do to become a better team in that back seven or back eight?"
Belichick: "Well, I think there are a lot of things we can do better. Let's start with the coaching. Maybe I can coach a little better; I think that'll help us out more than anything. But we can use depth at every position on the football team, so whenever we get an opportunity to add players that we feel like can contribute to our system, that's what we'll do. But that pretty much goes across the board."

Our own Jennifer Allen, who knows a thing or two about being the daughter of a legendary coach, sat down with Bill and Amanda Belichick, who have more in common than just that famous last name."

Write On: Belichick's Place In History
12-Apr-2005, NFL Films
Steve Sabol: "We begin with Bill Belichick. With his win over the Eagles in the Super Bowl, Belichick improved to 10-1 in postseason play, and surpassed Vince Lombardi as the coach with the greatest winning percentage in postseason history. When I was at the Super Bowl I spent some time on Radio Row. And everyone, on all the talk shows, was comparing Belichick to Lombardi. I knew Lombardi. I know Belichick. In my mind, they have very little in common."

NFL Total Access: Bill Belichick on PatriotsCam
03-Jan-2005, NFL Network
"I think everything's important. I think all the phases of the game are important. Everything. Preparation's important. I don't know what anything would come down to so I think you've got to try to cover all your bases and make sure you're ready to play the very best football at this time of year. Every team that's left playing is a good team. They all have a lot of strengths, they're well coached, they've gone through the competition and come out on top. So whichever one we're playing against we know will be tough. We know they'll be ready to go. And we know we'll need to be at our best. So that's where we want to try to be in two weeks."

NFL Total Access: Bill Belichick on PatriotsCam
29-Jul-2004, NFL Network
Rich Eisen: "Coach, how do you refocus your team after 15 straight wins and a magical ride all the way to the championship podium last year? How do you make sure these guys can basically come back down to earth and get to the task at hand here?"
Belichick: We don't really talk at all about last year at this point. We're into the '04 season; we've been into it for quite awhile. The players have had a long and productive offseason. Coaches have worked hard on the playbooks and some scheme things and making some adjustments moving into the season. So I think we're well past that; we don't really focus too much on it at all. We're respectful of what happened last year, but that's really about it."
