BB: I thought there was some improvement there from last week. I thought that we did a few things better. We definitely played a more physical game. We ran the ball with a little more consistency and played a little bit better on run defense. There are a few things to build on. We still have a lot of work to do; there's no question about that. We had way too many penalties. We had some trouble with a couple of their formations in the second quarter. Then obviously at the end of the game we didn't handle the end-of-the-game situation very well by the people that were in there. That wasn't too good. Overall, I thought it was a pretty competitive effort all the way around. It's something we can build on and work with and continue to improve. And we need to improve. There is some hope.

Q: You had some bumps and bruises. Can you update us on Troy Brown?

BB: It's all bumps and bruises. No, I don't have any update. It's a physical game; guys are banged up. I don't have any update or any report on that.

Q: Tom Brady played better?

BB: I thought that overall as a team there was a lot of good things. Put Tom in that category. There were a couple of plays I'm sure that he'd like to have back, but overall I thought that we threw the ball a little bit. Made a few plays. I thought he made a nice play on the touchdown to [Dan] Graham by scanning the field and keeping his eyes downfield. That was obviously a good decision. His game has certainly improved from the first week of the preseason, which it should. We have a ways to go.

Q: You used Ben Watson in a number of different situations tonight. Is that something that you wanted to focus on for tonight's game?

BB: That's pretty much the way we use our two tight end offense, the way we've used it in the past. It really isn't anything new. It's the same things we've done, whether it's with [Christian] Fauria or Graham or we had [Fred] Baxter last year. That's just the regular stuff, and he's learning how to do it.

Q: You decided to hold out Ty Law at the last minute...

BB: Yes. Didn't we announce that? He wanted to go, but I thought it would be better that he didn't.

Q: It seemed like Ben Watson made a lot of strides since the last game, are you pretty happy with the way he played?

BB: Well, yeah. I thought he did some good things, I thought there were some positive things out there. There were some other things that could stand some improvement. But he's getting better. He's working hard. If he can continue to do that, then I'm sure his game will continue to improve and that will be good for us. But it's only his second game; there are still some rough edges that need to be smoothed out. There's no question about that. I thought he did a couple things to help himself and help us.

Q: Do you think you matched Carolina emotionally?

BB: I think that both teams played about three-quarters of the people you're used to seeing out there. I thought it was pretty competitive all the way around. They gave us some problems, and I thought we gave them a few. It was a close, physical game. There were a lot of good licks laid back and forth by both teams. Both teams made some mistakes, but it was a pretty competitive effort.

Q: Corey Dillon ran the ball pretty well...

BB: I thought Corey ran hard. I thought he made a couple of nice cuts, kind of came out the back door a couple of times where it didn't look like there was too much in the hole that the play was designed to go and he cut it back against the grain.
