Jon Bon Jovi joined host Dan Patrick for
Week 3's Celebrity Football Picks. Here is a portion of that interview:
Dan Patrick: Parcells or Belichick?
Jon Bon Jovi: Belichick. Belichick.
Belichick.
Patrick: What is it that made you click
with him and not Parcells?
Bon Jovi: Parcells and I are still
buddies. He comes to shows, I go down to -- believe it or not I've been in
the Dallas Cowboy office, which is like the place where Beelzebub, himself,
lives.
Patrick: [Laughter]
Bon Jovi: Parcells is an old friend of mine, as well. God knows, I was given access to the Giants since
the mid-80s because of those guys. But what I loved about Belichick is he
was the consiglieri, you see, he wasn't the godfather. He was the one that
took that system and ran that defense, and the Giants were always famous for
their defense. When he went to Cleveland, he had to hone his skills as a
head coach because he hated the P.R. machine. But consider what he's done in
New England. I love what Bob Kraft has done in New England. I love the idea of 'we' not 'me' as a team. All of those things are what makes us
really proud to know what Belichick does. I use that as a model for what
we're doing in the AFL with the Soul.
Patrick: Who would write a better song
for you, Belichick or Parcells?
Bon Jovi: [Laughter] Parcells.
[Laughter] Belichick's got two left feet, he can't dance. He tries to play
drums...
Patrick: [Laughter]
Bon Jovi: We bought him a drum kit. He
is the biggest Bon Jovi fan and he's a good friend, but I think Parcells
would be a little more poignant when it comes to getting in front of
a microphone.
Patrick: See the thing is, I would think
that Belichick, driven to perfection, it would drive him crazy that he
would have to write the perfect song for you. Whereas Parcells may not
be as anal about doing that. But Belichick strikes me as, 'I'm going to get
this right -- every chord, every note...
Bon Jovi: [Laughter]
Patrick: ...every song, everything about
it.'
Bon Jovi: Yeah, well you know sometimes
showmanship is what hits are made on, too, and I think Parcells might have
him beat there. |
